SCHOOL BOARD 227, IN ITS NEGLIGENCE OF ITS ROLES AND LACK OF MORAL LEADERSHIP WITH OVERSIGHT, LET'S THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION AND STAFF MAKE DECISIONS THAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE BOARD.

 

WITH A LID PUT ON THE ACT OF FULL COMMUNICATION ACROSS FULL BOARD AND COMMUNITY LINES, SCHOOL BOARD 227 NEVER MEETS AMONG ITSELF TO FOLLOW A REGULAR PROCESS TO REVIEW STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT DATA ,TO ENSURE CONTINUOUS ACADEMIC, INSTRUCTIONAL, AND MORAL IMPROVEMENT. SCHOOL BOARD 227 HAS RELINQUISHED ITS ROLE AS MONITOR AND OVER SEER OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT'S ACADEMIC, INSTRUCTIONAL, MORAL AND FISCAL ASSETS AND HAS PUT THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION IN CHARGE OF THE SCHOOL BOARD, INCLUDING EVALUATION OF ITSELF, INSTEAD OF THE SCHOOL BOARD EVALUATING THE DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION, USING DATA ANALYSIS. THIS IS ROLE REVERSAL. THIS IS LIKE THE TAIL (ADMINISTRATION AND EMPLOYEES) WAGGING THE DOG (THE SCHOOL BOARD).

 

THE BOARD'S ROLE IS TO HIRE, HOLD ACCOUNTABLE, AND TO EVALUATE THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION. IT REFUSES TO MEET FIRST WITH ITSELF PERIODICALLY (MONTHLY) TO ADDRESS PROACTIVELY OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT'S ACADEMIC AND MORAL CHALLENGES AND REALITIES FIRST AMONG SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS, AND SECONDLY, BASED UPON OUR DATA, THEN MEET WITH THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION. RATHER, THEY IGNORE, DENY, OR MINIMIZE OUR CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES TO DO OUR JOB.   IN A SCHOOL DISTRICT WITH CONTINOUS ACADEMIC AND MORAL FAILURE SCANDALS ON EVERY FRONT, WITH LACK OF FORE PLANNING AND PROACTION, IT'S IMPORTANT TO MEET WITH OURSELVES FIRST AND THEN THE DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION TO INSURE THAT BOARD POLICIES ARE BEING CARRIED OUT, ADDRESS DISTRICT PROGRESS USING DATA, DETERMINE HOW WELL WE ARE ACCOMPLISHING OUR GOALS , AND COME TO A RESOLUTION..

 

OUR FAILURES ARE REMINISCENT OF THE CONTINUING CESSPOOL OF LIES WITHOUT REBUTTAL, FIGHTING FACTS, LACK OF COLLABORATION, SUPPRESSION OF FULL BOARD AND COMMUNITYT VOICE, NONTRANSPARENCY WITH NO INPUT FROM ALL, DUMBING DOWN COMMUNITY AND TARGETED BOARD MEMBERS, AND CORRUPTION WITH LACK OF TRANSPARENCY, VISION, PROACTION, AND FOLLOWUP WITH OVERSIGHT. IN A CLIMATE OF LOW ACHIEVEMENT, NONTRANSPARENCY, MORAL CORRUPTION, AND LACK OF VISION, LEADERSHIP MEANS MANAGEMENT BY "WALKING AROUND AND MONITORING." ADMINISTRATORS NEED TO KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON IN THEIR BUILDINGS ON A DAILY BASIS AND TO ADDRESS AND REPORT IT. THE BOARD SHOULD HOLD THE ADMINISTRATION ACCOUNTBLE, BUT DOESN'T, SINCE IT DOESN'T HOLD ITSELF ACCOUNTABLE, AND ADOPT MORE POLICIES ADDRESSING CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT, THEN BEGIN TO TAKE ACTION.

 

SADLY, BOARD 227 NEVER MEETS IN PERIODIC REVIEWS TO DISCUSS AND ADDRESS DISTRICT GOALS, DISCUSS OUR PROGRESS AMONG OURSELVES FIRST, AND THEN CALL A BOARD-ADMINISTRATION MEETING AND RECOMMEND TO THE DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION NEEDED POLICIES TO SUPPORT CONTINUOUS ACADEMIC, INSTRUCTIONAL, AND MORAL IMPROVEMENTS. NEW SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS HAVE BEEN CHALLENGED FOR VISITING THE SCHOOLS, ADDRESSING HIGH TARDY RATES, AND TO OBSERVE HOW THE SCHOOLS ARE BEING MANAGED. WHEN THE COMMUNITY ASKS QUESTIONS ABOUT THE PUBLIC'S BUSINESS IN OPEN PUB LIC FORUMS AT SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS, THE CHAIR ASK THE QUESTIONER TO COME TO SEE THE SUPERINTENDENT AT ANOTHER TIME IN PRIVATE, BEHIND CLOSED DOORS, SO THAT THE PUBLIC'S QUESTIONS CAN NEVER BE ANSWERED FOR THE PUBLIC IN THE PUBLIC ARENA FOR THE PUBLIC TO HEAR AND TO KNOW.
