| A MESSAGE FROM CHERYL COLEMAN: BOARD MEMBER, RICH TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 227 Good Morning All, It's been awhile since sharing information with you regarding the District 227 School Board. Update: There are four seats up for the next election, April 9, 2012. Petitions are being circulated by candidates now and must be filed by last date of Dec. 24, 2012.
Expect a large turnout due to the 2nd Congressional District as well as the Mayoral Elections in Matteson, Richton Park, Olympia Fields and please let us not forget our friends in the very controversial election of Country Club Hills. I wish all the best. Due to Dr. Morgan's tribute many have asked If I'm running for office, NO AND I'M NOT RUNNING FOR MAYOR OF MATTESON. (SMILE)
Therefore, this election is very important and If I've never said it before I'm saying it now, Your Help Is Needed! We need to all stick together on the best four people to represent SD 227 for the next four years. This is the most critical election for our school board .
Board Accomplishments: - Bronze Award from US News and World Report for Rich East and Rich Central
- Secured 1 million dollar contract for the current superintendent
Board Current Challenges: - Current year 17.9 ACT Score
- PSAE 33% college ready
- School Rankings out of 669 High Schools in the State of Illinois:
Rich Central 559 Rich South 544 Rich East 542 - Reduced 40 plus teachers and 30 plus support staff without a plan to recruit or attract families back to the district.
- Purchased 4.2mil dollar administration building without any discussion with the community.
- Failed to purchase or inquire about a field house, pools, indoor track and field, tennis or other athletics activities that are dormant during winter months for SD 227
- Board President cut off residents from speaking
- Board Secretary asked a community member to meet in the parking lot to settle a discussion
- Board Vice President disrespect community member by not using their given name.
- Board President cut off board members from presenting plans for improvement
- Board Majority supporter threatens community to the parking lot and threaten that if I don't start voting like the majority..... you get the point
- Paid out $840,000.00 plus to attorney's due to litigation and the number is growing. Primary cause lack of following process and procedures, lack of discipline.

oSuperintendent's projection was around 4,000 students however, we dropped by approximately 310 children according to the numbers from last year to this year...WE ARE IN TROUBLE!!!! oEnrollment projected to drop again next year without a plan presented to the board for recruitment. There is more but I think you get the picture. We need change, We need you, We need help!
There will be several small coffees to allow you the opportunity to meet and greet new candidates. Please Rich Township Community Members, join me in getting to know the new candidates. We need to select four people that will bring about change, work better together and not get hung up on what we've always done because apparently it has not worked in our favor yet. This year get to know your candidates. It's not business as usual!
