The gray haired man (see Helen Burleson's statement below) was Spencer Leak Sr., former-Superintendent Leak's father-in-law. His threat (which was witnesses by three others) was reported by Coleman to Park Forest police. Spencer Leak Jr. (husband) was also witnessed issuing a threat to Coleman though I am unsure if it was reported to police. This is not the first time Spencer Leak Sr. has issued a threat to a female member of our community. A few years ago, when Leak was being "gifted" the position of Director of Curriculum by Betty Owens, Spencer Leak Sr. threatened a female member (Javonna Smith) of the Rich Central PTSO (which opposed her candidacy). He and his family think they can buy or intimidate anyone. He's wrong. The community members present stood strong (literally and figuratively) behind our new board in their actions and in front of them when kaos (thanks to the rather dangerous, instigating efforts of Sheila Friday) ensued. We give thanks today that we are forever rid of the Leak's and their entire undesirable contingent (most from Chicago), which included several members of Operation Push and others with no other available mission in which to to save humanity than to crusade for a person who was, based upon the charges, too incompetent, too uncaring for children, and too arrogant to hold the position of superintendent. It is my estimation and the estimation of some others that the large contingent of supporters of Dr. Leak attending did not reside in the 227 school district. The previous school board who appointed Dr. Leak as Superintendant who called the process "open" gerrymandered the process in such a way to appoint Dr. Leak when none of the 4 final candidates were qualified nor demonstrated any leadership qualities. They were irate over the termination of the contract of Dr. Donna Simpson Leak. Cheryl Coleman, the president of the newly constituted Board of Education, showed grace and poise under fire. Irate spokespersons speaking in defense of Superintendent Donna Simpson Leak, seemed to have come prepared to disrupt, obstruct and outshout anyone who didn't agree with their apparent pre-planned agenda. One woman, a Quintella Bounds, who claims to have a doctorate degree, was out of control in shouting down parents expressing their point of view. She had to be admonished several times by the Board chairman, who reminded Bounds that just as the audience gave her respect, when she was speaking, for her to give other speakers the same respect. To no avail, she continued in an ignorant rant, shouting and displaying total disrespect and improper decorum. As a teacher, she disgraced herself and her profession. Surely, she must have made a bad impression on some young children who were in attendance. Another speaker gave a mixed message after having to apologize to the Board president after she engaged in several disgraceful rants while disrupting Board proceedings. When she spoke, she referred to the Leak family as thugs. In the next sentence she praised them for eleemosynary work in providing free burials for indigent patrons. This lady did not follow the instructions to give name and community before addressing the audience. She, like, Bounds were the two most obstructive members of the audience. Cheryl Mallard, another speaker, delivered a call and response presentation. To each question she asked about the characteristics and competence of Dr. Leak, she answered, yes. Because the meeting grew in hostility, rancor and venom, a board member called for adjournment. After the meeting ended, a gray haired man came to confront and threatened Cheryl Coleman, the Board president. Park Forest police were called to provide safe escort for Mrs. Coleman. ### Call Helen Burleson for further details: (708)747-0919 |
