Update of the school board meeting of November 20, 2012 In district 227, the more times change the more board 227's dog and pony shows remain the same. With an election coming up in April 2013, the school district administration thought that it was important to congratulate and thank Betty Owens and Emmanuel Imoukhuede in public for covertly blocking the school board members who cared from doing our job of assessing district progress, continuous improvement evaluation, and holding the district responsible while protecting their employed family and friends from being held accountable. Meanwhile, true to themselves, the board majority continued to hide the evidence in public, and then hold both itself and the district harmless and unaccountable, bragging on itself, and insisting that only the board majority, but not the full board, can engage in public debate addressing our plight, with no rebuttal. Meanwhile, away from the public's eyes and in our court system, the board continues to fight and wage war against our parents and community. In an attempt to achieve the impossible, they continue to try to violate our free speech protections in court in frivolous violations-of-our-freedom-of-speech lawsuits, and try to suppress our community at open board meetings wasting millions of our tax dollars that should go toward improving our schools. This is all done in an effort to prevent the public input that they should be encouraging. On November 20, 2012, the school board majority, still bragging on itself for doing nothing and still pretending that "We are the best and doing just fine", as less than three out of every ten students were at grade level in the 2010-2011 school year, had achieved the impossible again. At this time, there may be a slight moratorium put on the more blatant and dehumanizing aspects of suppressing targeted board members and community participation at open board meetings until after the school board elections of April 9, 2013. But this time around, to plug the hole in the district 227 sinking ship, we must act wisely on April 9, 2013. Patrick Henry said it best: "He who does not govern himself wisely will be governed by despots. The greatest way to lose our liberties is to exercise our freedoms irresponsibly!"
